Dear SSD Families and Community Members,

I hope that all is well for you as April has begun! Next week our schools will be closed for Spring Break (April 7-11). To close out the month of March, I had the chance to meet with 14 of the 19 students in grades 6-12 who are members of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC). Our group meets once per month and we discuss topics that are important in the lives of our students that relate to their education and experience in our community and schools. Here is a link to materials from the meeting that can be accessed on our website. We are also gearing up for READY! For Kindergarten workshops on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 for Ages 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, and Thursday, May 1st, 2025 for ages 3-4 and 4-5. The program is free to families within the Sultan School District boundaries and information about the program and how to sign up can be found at this link here.

Calendar Update

We have had two school days canceled this school year due to snow. Now that we are likely out of the time of year when we will miss days due to snow, an updated calendar has been created can be found here. The last day of school (a half day) will now be on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The date for graduation has not changed and will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the stadium on the campus at Sultan High School.

Capital Levy Projects

In 2022 the community graciously approved an enrichment levy and capital levy for critical projects. The main item in the capital levy was the construction of a new transportation building. The new transportation building required that projects had to be scheduled throughout the 4-year levy to have the cash flow to complete the projects. We are gearing up to put new roofing systems on both Sultan Elementary School and Gold Bar Elementary School. The work will begin shortly after school is out on June 17, 2025. We have a Capital Levy project website where you can monitor progress on projects, look at receipts, and view how we are performing regarding our estimated budget for each project. You can access the project's website at the following link here.

Impact fee Questions Answered

One of the most talked about and frequently misunderstood topics in our valley is school impact fees on new construction. Every year this topic is discussed in various forums as new home developments continue within the boundaries of Sultan School District. This past November 26, 2024, I presented our Capital Facilities Plan to the City of Sultan Planning Board. While the focus was on the entire Capital Facilities Plan, four key questions about impact fees were answered.

  1. Why did the Single-Family impact fees drop?

  2. Why did the Multi-Family impact fees drop?

  3. How much did the school district pay for the 49 acres that were purchased?

  4. What does Capital Facility coordination between the City and Sultan School District look like as we move forward in the future?

The answers to these 4 questions are on pages 11-13 of the PowerPoint presentation found here. You can also view the entire presentation on YouTube at this link here. The questions are answered beginning at 12:10 and completed at around 19:30.
