What is Transition to Kindergarten?

Transition to Kindergarten is a free, full day Kindergarten readiness program. Transition to Kindergarten extends an opportunity for children to build a solid foundation for school success through play-based learning. Transition to Kindergarten focuses on providing opportunities for students to grow in areas such as pre-reading, pre-writing, early numeracy, and social skills. 

What is the Transition to Kindergarten Screening?

A simple screening will occur in June of 2025 for each eligible child. This screening will be approximately 20 minutes, during this time the teacher will engage in activities with the child so that data may be collected to help determine if the program is the best option for the child.  Your child must be accepted into the program before a Registration Packet can be completed.

Someone will contact you in June and class starts in Sept 2025.

Who is eligible?

In determining student eligibility and admitting students to Transition to Kindergarten program. The Washington Administrative Code (WAC 392-425-040) Districts must:

• Give priority to children most in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten as demonstrated through a screening process; and

• to children with the lowest family income not otherwise participating in another local early learning program.

• To be eligible for this program, children must be 4 on or prior to August 31st, 2025, and

• will be entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2026,

• Must complete a PARENT INTEREST FORM.

Once all screenings are complete classroom enrollment will be finalized and you will be contacted regarding if your child is in the program or on the waiting list. You will be asked to complete the Registration Packet for enrollment if your child has been accepted into the TK Program.

The first day of Transition to Kindergarten will be in September 2025, and runs until the end of the school year.

To be eligible for screening, children must:

• Be 5 years old by August 31, 2026

• Live within the boundaries of sultan school district

• Demonstrate academic and/or social-emotional needs

Parent Interest forms due May 30, 2025, by 3:00 pm.

Form will be active on March 12, 2025
