Dear Sultan School District Families,

The Sultan School District has become aware of concerning social media post that has been shared widely on TikTok. The post refers to a threat to school safety “for every school in the USA, even elementary,” on Friday, December 17th.

The post appears to be part of a national TikTok trend and did not originate in our school district or mention any Sultan School District schools in any way. Towards the end of the day today, we became aware of kids talking about the TikTok message. We have heard reports that the TikTok message has been discussed in other nearby school districts today as well. While we do not believe that there is any credible threat to our students or staff, the safety of, your child is important to us and we will continue to monitor the situation.

This situation serves as a good reminder of why it is important to immediately refer concerning posts or safety threats to school staff or the police without forwarding the message to others. Even if threats or concerning messages are not credible, they can still cause a great deal of stress for our students, families and staff. We ask that families monitor your children’s social media activity and speak with them about appropriate behavior online.

If you or your child becomes aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify a school staff member or trusted adult right away. You also contact us at our Safeschools Tipline at one of the following links:
